Level Up with Conscious Awareness 🌱

A Message from Susan:
There are plenty of theories about what conscious awareness actually is, where it comes from, and how it operates in our mind-body system. I am not a neuroscientist, quantum physicist, priest, or philosopher. But I have seen again and again that when you become consciously aware of what is happening inside you, something shifts and life becomes less stressful and more manageable. Okay, maybe I am a philosopher sometimes 🙂.
This is what we have for you this week:
1. You are More Than Your Thoughts
2. Expanding your Window of Tolerance
3. Spirituality & Connection
You Are More Than Your Thoughts 👁️
Conscious awareness allows you to step back and observe a thought instead of being swept away by it. It gives you the space to notice emotions before they become too intense. Self-awareness helps you interrupt automatic loops between thoughts, body sensations, and reactions. That shift alone reduces the internal noise that can keep your mind and nervous system stuck in overdrive.
Expanding Your Window of Tolerance 🪟
Your window of tolerance is the zone where you can feel emotions, think clearly, and stay grounded at the same time. When you’re inside it, stress is manageable. When you’re outside it, you can feel overwhelmed and reactive or shut down and numb. Expanding that window doesn’t happen by forcing yourself to calm down or by pushing feelings away. It begins with conscious awareness and when you learn to notice what’s happening in your body and mind without immediately trying to fix it. You start catching the early signs of stress, like tight shoulders and racing thoughts and that moment of noticing creates space. And space is powerful. It gives your nervous system time to settle and your brain time to sit with uncertainty.
Over time, this practice of observing rather than reacting retrains your system. Each time you stay present with a difficult emotion and remind yourself you’re okay, you’re teaching your brain that discomfort is tolerable. You’re widening the range of experiences you can handle. That’s how the window expands, not all at once, but gradually, through repeated moments of awareness.
Spirituality & Connection ✨
Spirituality and connection to something more expansive than ourselves often strengthens purpose, hope and a feeling of safety. The message of all religions is love and that is a powerful source for peace and internal stability. When we feel connected to something larger than our thoughts and circumstances, our internal world often changes. There is room to breathe. That sense of belonging reduces isolation, and isolation is one of the loudest amplifiers of mental noise.
This kind of connection does not erase stressors, but it changes how they are experienced. When love becomes our organizing principle, fear loses some of its power. The nervous system responds to meaning and reassurance just as it responds to threat, and the brain predicts safety more often than danger. Over time, that shift can reshape our internal patterns giving us a sense of calm peacefulness.
